The article titled ‘Sosyal- Kulturel Faktorlerin Cevirideki Rolu’ was written by Ali Baykan. Before I read the whole article, I skimmed the abstract. As the article stated, “After its reputation as a new branch of science, there cannot be achieved any scientific agreement on the meaning of translation, its method, this place in the education of a second language, its connection to culture etc. This situation not only brings various ideas about the issue but also has some dilemmas on the way putting a conclusion of the matter. However, each new idea and dilemma makes this science go further on its development. The fact that social and cultural factors have essential place in the phase of translation has come out by those ideas and dilemmas. This study attempts to analyze how much these factors have effect on the interrelation between the national and international cultures; and also the place of translation on evaluating these roles as positive or negative and supporting or distressing influence on the translator, and the significance of translation on revealing several cultures to foreground.”

As we discussed in the lesson, the translation has several different definitions. When I read the definition in this article, I really like it. Here is the definition: “Ceviri yapmak iki efendiye birden hizmet etmek demektir. Bu hizmet aslinda hic kimsenin yapamayacagi bir sey. Bu nedenle kuramsal olarak hic kimsenin yapamayacagi her sey gibi, ceviri de uygulamada herkesin yaptigi is olup cikar. Hic kimse ceviri yapmadan edemez ve herkes ceviriye el atar.” This article explains the specifics of tranlastion.
